Syncing REST data to your handheld

Adding FileMaker Pro databases to share with the handheld

To share FileMaker Pro databases with the handheld:

1. Start the FileMaker Mobile 8 application.

2. If no databases are currently shared, the Add Database dialog will appear automatically.
Otherwise, click Add in the main FileMaker Mobile window.


REST Single User

1. In the Add Database dialog box, select Add Local Database.
Click OK.


Windows

2. When prompted, specify the FileMaker Pro database that you want to share with the handheld.
a. RESTwU Activities.USR

3. Click OK.

Repeat these steps for each FileMaker Pro database you want to share with the handheld.
b. RESTwU People.USR, click OK.
c. RESTwU Properties.USR, click OK.

NOTE: When adding each RESTw/U file you will be prompted to enter your REST Account Name and Password. This is your normal REST login information.


Mac OS

2. When prompted, specify the FileMaker Pro database that you want to share with the handheld.
a. RESTwU Activities.USR

3. Click OK.

Repeat these steps for each FileMaker Pro database you want to share with the handheld.
b. RESTwU People.USR, click OK.
c. RESTwU Properties.USR, click OK.

NOTE: When adding each RESTw/U files you will be prompted to enter your REST Account Name and Password. This is your normal REST login information.


REST Multi User

1. In the Add Database dialog box, select Add Hosted Database.

2. Specify the Network File Path for the FileMaker Pro database on the hosting machine (FileMaker Pro 8 or FileMaker Server 8), or click Browse to locate the hosting machine on the network.
(Example of Network File Path: fmnet:/hostIPAddress/filename)

a. RESTwU Activities.fp7

3. Click OK.

Repeat these steps for each hosted FileMaker Pro database you want to share with the handheld.
b. RESTwU People.fp7, click OK.
c. RESTwU Properties.fp7, click OK.


NOTE: When adding each RESTw/U files you will be prompted to enter your REST Account Name and Password. This is your normal REST login information.


Making REST w/U databases available for synchronization

After you have added the REST w/U databases, they will by default be enabled for synchronization. You can temporarily turn off the synchronization for each database by removing the checkmark next to the database name.


REST w/U Settings in Preferences area of REST

Click the Preferences navigation button, then click the REST w/U tab.


Choose what Activities to sync with your PDA

Choose from To-Do, Day, Week, Month and choose from List Type, In Basket, Next Action, Waiting For, etc.


Choose what People to sync with your PDA

Click the People tab, search and select individual People records.


Choose what People Groups to sync with your PDA

Click the People Group tab and select any People Groups.


Choose what Properties to sync with your PDA

Click the Properties tab, search and select individual Property records.


Choose what Property Groups to sync with your PDA

Click the Property Groups tab and select any Property Groups.


Syncing your Data

Once you have made all your selections you are ready to sync.
Click New Sync and follow the prompts.

NOTE: Use New Sync the first time you are syncing data from REST to your handheld and each time you want to completely replace the existing handheld data with current REST data.

(Use the Re-Sync funtcion when synchronizing changes made on either the handheld or desktop REST.)


New Sync

Confirm the information in the dailog box and click Continue.


Be sure you delete any old REST w/U files before preforming a New sync.


After syncronization is complete, you must login to each of the three (3) REST files on your handheld and perform syncronization (from the handheld) a final time.

To login to each of the 3 RESTw/U files on your handheld:

1. Open FileMaker Mobile 8 on your handheld.
2. Click to open REST w/U Activities.
3. When prompted, select Specify Account and enter
your normal REST account name and click Done.
4. Click Password and enter your normal REST password and click Done.

Repeat the above steps for:
REST w/U People
REST /W U Properties

Then perform syncronization (from the handheld) a final time.


Re-Sync

Use this funtcion when synchronizing changes made
on either the handheld or desktop REST.


Connect handheld and perform syncronization.


When syncronization is finished, click Continue.
